Focus and scope
USFQ Law Working Papers is an academic-legal series of continuous diffusion, with opening for professionals authors and open access contents. It introduces in Ecuador a new type of academic interaction that, due to its particular characteristics, has the potential to be a pioneer in redesigning the public discourse of Law. Its objective is to disseminate working papers with a legal impact, which can cover any subject of the branches of this science and its relations with other areas of knowledge, for which it is aimed at the legal community and other related disciplines, with national and international scope.
USFQ Law Working Papers disseminates original academic and scientific articles, interviews, reviews or translations of other publications, among others, in Spanish or English. The contents are the sole responsibility of their authors, who retain ownership of all rights to their work. The dissemination of the documents is determined, case by case, by the Editorial Committee. Peer review is dispensed with in order to give the entire academic community the opportunity to participate, through the presentation of new works, in the discussion of all the contents disseminated.
USFQ Law Working Papers was born, managed and disseminated as an initiative of Professor Johanna Fröhlich (Ph. D.) and a group of alumni from the College of Jurisprudence of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito USFQ (Ecuador). Its dissemination is carried out thanks to the support of the Institute of Legal Research USFQ (Ecuador).
Mission
USFQ Law Working Papers introduces a new type of dissemination in Ecuador that, due to its particular characteristics, has the potential to be a pioneer in redesigning the public and academic discourse around Law in the country. The values that we want to promote through this project are honesty, academic quality, diversity of opinions, open and inclusive dialogue, and easy, dynamic, and fast access to academic articles. The objective is to give visibility to all the academic or professional opinions that reach the appropriate quality of the works.
Vision
This initiative seeks to mark a change of worldview in a new generation of lawyers and, as a consequence, promote a new culture of legal dialogue. To give concrete form to this change and transform the academic and professional discourse in Law, according to the values mentioned, USFQ Law Working Papers aspires to create a community of lawyers with an academic interest to put this new dialectic into practice. Our vision is that, in a few years, USFQ Law Working Papers can become a point of reference for academic legal discourse with the participation of the most important actors in legal science and, in the same way, with the talents of the new generations. .
Periodicity
There is no defined periodicity for the dissemination of the Working Papers. The reception and management of new articles remains open permanently.

Open Access and Academic Honesty Policy
Open access involves permanent, free, and unrestricted access to academic content available to any Internet user. USFQ Law Working Papers seeks to promote the continuous dissemination of high-impact academic-legal research.
USFQ Law Working Papers is governed by this Open Access Policy to achieve the following objectives:
1. Disseminate working papers with legal impact
Working papers may cover any topic pertaining to branches of legal science and its relationship with other areas of knowledge. They are intended for the legal community and related disciplines, with national and international reach.
USFQ Law Working Papers disseminates original academic and scientific articles, interviews, reviews, or translations of other publications, among others, in Spanish or English.
The document must be original (with no prior formal publication) or eligible for dissemination with authorization from the copyright holder. The translation of previously published documents is also permitted with authorization from the copyright holder.
2. Promote the dissemination of academic-legal articles to the public
USFQ Law Working Papers is open to contributions from legal professionals and from professionals in related fields, particularly social sciences.
Any professional may participate as an author of the works to be disseminated. Students of legal sciences and related fields may publish working papers with the support of one or more professionals (lawyers). There are no limitations regarding the number of authors.
- We seek to create an academic-legal community with research interest, fostering a new, publicly accessible dialectic.
Our vision is that, in a few years, USFQ Law Working Papers may become a reference point for academic legal discourse, with the participation of the most important actors in legal science, as well as emerging talent from new generations.
This initiative aims to spark a change in worldview within a new generation of lawyers and, consequently, promote a new culture of legal dialogue.
3. Promote accesibility, visibility, and continuity of academic-legal research
The values we aim to foster through this project include honesty, academic quality, diversity of opinions, open and inclusive dialogue, and easy, dynamic, and rapid access to academic articles. The objective is to give visibility to all academic or professional opinions that meet an appropriate standard of quality.
Dissemination is continuous. The reception of works is permanently open. The moment of dissemination is determined by the Editorial Committee.
4. The contents disseminated by USFQ Law Working Papers are the exclusive responsability of their authors, who retain full ownership of all rights over their works

Peer review is omitted in order to give the entire academic community the opportunity to participate by submitting new work and contributing to the discussion of all disseminated content.
- Additionally, USFQ Law Working Papers promotes academic research in an environment of respect and appreciation for intellectual work and is therefore governed by the following Academic Honesty Policy:
1. Academic honesty promotes the use of original ideas and respect for the work of other authors.
USFQ Law Working Papers adopts this Policy as a guideline to promote and establish responsible conduct by both authors and project members in the use and management of information sources. Respect for the ideas of others is guaranteed through proper attribution of authorship.
2. USFQ Law Working Papers is governed by the Honor Code of Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ).
Any lack of honesty is considered a violation of the academic and ethical principles of USFQ Law Working Papers. In accordance with the Honor Code of Universidad San Francisco de Quito, if any infringement is found in the working papers submitted by authors, the matter will be referred to the Office of the Dean of Students for the corresponding procedure.
- All working papers are checked through the Turnitin platform to detect possible plagiarism.
The Editorial Committee’s review of the working papers is based on the plagiarism report generated by the aforementioned platform. If a case of plagiarism is confirmed, the procedures established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and the Honor Code of Universidad San Francisco de Quito will be followed.
In line with the points mentioned above, the activity of USFQ Law Working Papers is guided by the following principles:
- Ensuring respect for copyright, intellectual property, and confidentiality.
- Following international standards and criteria for open access digital repositories.
- Preserving and maintaining perpetual access to deposited working papers.
