Equal Paternity Leave
Proposed Reform of Article 152 of the Ecuadorian Labour Code.

This working paper carries out a comparative analysis of the legal framework of the US, Norway, Sweden, and Ecuador, as well as a study of the Ecuadorian reality to measure the possibility of applying a reform to article 152 of the Ecuadorian Labor Code on maternity and paternity leave, and the effects that it would imply in the workplace. Based on the study, the article proposes a reform to the article in which the license periods are equated. Finally, it is concluded that carrying out the proposed reform would generate equal conditions for men and women within the workplace, preventing premature career abandonment by women and favoring the development of the parental bond in raising their children.
